Once all the ingredients have been collected, the important part is extracting oil from the ingredients.Some of the extraction methods used to extract oil include; steam distillation, solvent extraction, expression, enfleurage, and maceration.

· Steam Distillation

Steam distillation was mostly used in ancient times and it has grown to be more popular since it is efficient and produces high-quality oil.

In this process, natural materials are placed in a still. The entire process involves:

  • You will boil all ingredients alongside other aromatic substances until you produce steam
  • Next, you will collect the steam thereby condensing it back to liquid form.
  • At the same time, you can separate essential oil from water. This produces a pure and concentrated form.

Solvent extraction

During this extraction technique, you will put plant ingredients in a rotating drum (tank). For better results, you will cover the ingredients with either benzene. Petroleum ether can also be a substitute for benzene.

During the process, ingredients dissolve thereby producing a waxy substance. This waxy substance contains oil.

Ethyl alcohol then dissolves the oil. Once it burns off, it leaves an oil perfume with high concentration.

Expression

It is a simple and one of the most traditional ways of extraction in the perfume manufacturing industry. You can use machinery or manual techniques to press and extract useful substances for your perfume.

Enfleurage

Enfleurage is a manufacturing method where perfumes are based on the use of a fatty substance and the ability to absorb odors. In this process, large glass sheets are coated with grease, and the plant material is spread across them.

Maceration

The maceration method is almost close to the enfleurage method. In the maceration method, the oil dissolves and absorbs the aromatic compounds creating a unified scent.

Step 3: Blending

Once you have gathered all your ingredients form a simple basic structure that will help guide you during the blending process.

Ensure you mix the ingredients with the right ratio to ensure the right combination is achieved.

Step 4: Aging Process

The aging process allows the different scents to blend and should be controlled under the best temperature, time, and humidity.
